Golden Eagles Battle To Another Scoreless Draw

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's soccer team made it three shutouts in its first six games with another 0-0 tie against a quality opponent on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles, two days after a 0-0 tie with Biola, were at it again on Saturday night with a 0-0 tie against Azusa Pacific in front of an energetic crowd at University Stadium. The game was fast-paced, but neither team was able to generate any outstanding chances against two stout defenses. Cal State LA's Kendyl Sumlin made four saves for her third shutout of the season, while Azusa Pacific's Alexia Munoz made two saves for her fourth consecutive shutout.

Cal State LA (2-1-3) has yet to score a goal in four home games, while Azusa Pacific (2-1-2) posted its fourth straight shutout since allowing three goals in its opener.

The Golden Eagles have allowed only four goals in their first six games.

Azusa Pacific had a 12-4 advantage in shots, but Cal State LA's defense forced most of those shots to be taken from distance and Sumlin easily saved the four that came her way. The Golden Eagles had a a 5-1 edge in corner kicks, but Azusa Pacific's defense handled all of them without incident.

Sofia Orozco, Bailey Martinez, Jacqueline Marin and Ella Griffin had the shot attempts for the Golden Eagles, while Celine Gehrig, Lindsey Metcalfe and Itzel Carbajal were strong for all 90 minutes of play and Camila Juarez had another strong outing in 80 minutes of playing time.

Cal State LA will return to action next Saturday with a non-conference game against California Collegiate Athletic Association foe Cal State Dominguez Hills.
