LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team recorded its third straight shutout to open the season, but this one did not result in a third straight victory.
The No. 2 Golden Eagles had some glorious opportunities in the second half, but could not break through against a stout Seattle Pacific defense and settled to a 0-0 tie in University Stadium. Cal State LA (2-0-1) and Seattle Pacific (1-1-1) battled to a 0-0 draw for a second straight season.
Cal State LA had a pair of great chances denied by Seattle Pacific goalkeeper Brian Lanier, who stopped a penalty kick attempt by Cal State LA's
Emiliano Gutierrez with a diving stop in the 74th minute and then denied
Erick Alamo on a bid in the 85th minute with another diving save.

Andreas Christou fired a shot in the 78th minute that just missed the far post.
Cal State LA had a 13-5 advantage in shots and a 3-0 edge in corner kicks with all three coming in the second half.Â
Brayden McClelland made two saves for the Golden Eagles for his third shutout and Lanier made three saves for the Falcons.
Gutierrez and
Ignacio Moreno had two shots each for the Golden Eagles, while Christopher Soto had two shots for the Falcons.
Cal State LA will return to action on Saturday with a home game against Western Washington at 2 p.m.
