Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Golden Eagles Are Unable To Slow Down Toros

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team entered the weekend with some momentum after a pair of big home wins last week, but what a difference a week makes.

The Golden Eagles, who re-entered the national rankings at No. 15, allowed three goals for a second straight game and fell to Cal State Dominguez Hills, 3-0, in a California Collegiate Athletic Association showdown in University Stadium. Cal State LA (6-3-4, 3-3 CCAA) was coming off a 3-2 loss at Cal State East Bay on Friday and things didn't get any better on Sunday against a Cal State Dominguez Hills (8-2-3, 5-0-1 CCAA) team that was energized from the start.

Cal State LA lost at home for the first time since a 2-0 defeat to Cal State Monterey Bay on Oct. 1, ,2023.

The Toros came out flying at the start and opened the scoring just 6:30 into the contest on a blast from Sergio Valenzuela, who ripped a shot from about 35 yards out from the center of the field that found the corner of the net. Christian Briseno had the assist.

The Toros kept up the pressure and made it 2-0 on a header goal from Lucas Galarza right in front of the net from a ball sent into the box by Diego Barahona. The play was originally waved off for offsides, but a VAR review overturned the call and Cal State Dominguez Hills had a 2-0 lead in the 15th minute.

Justin Cuevas made it 3-0 in the 32nd minute after a strong run down the right flank from Alpha Sowe, who sent a perfect pass to an open Cuevas for the finish.

Ricardo Cabrera made his first appearance of the season in the second half for Cal State LA and made four saves, including a pair of diving stops.

Geovanni Antuna, Ignacio Moreno, Joel Green and Jose Lopez had two shots each for the Golden Eagles, who were out-shot, 12-10. The Toros also had an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Cal State LA will return to action on Sunday with a home game against Cal Poly Humboldt at 2 p.m. on Senior Day.
