LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team turned in another stout defensive performance Saturday to wrap up an undefeated non-conference schedule.
The Golden Eagles got goals from
Andrew Portis and
Emil Kischka and three saves from
Diego Bravo in a 2-0 win over California Collegiate Athletic Association rival Cal State Dominguez Hills. Cal State LA (5-0-1) stretched its unbeaten streak to 20 games dating back to last season with the win over the Toros (3-4) in a match designated as a non-conference contest.
The No. 3 Golden Eagles will conclude their conference schedule at Cal State Dominguez Hills later in the season.
Andrew Portis opened the scoring with nifty shot in the box that was delivered in the box and just inside the right post and past a diving Cal State Dominguez Hills goalkeeper Arturo Magana in the 26th minute. It was the second goal of the season for Portis, who now has four for his career.
Luke Varav and
Rene Cortez picked up their first assists of the season.
Emil Kischka completed the scoring in the 76th minute when he knocked in the rebound of a shot by
Geovanni Antuna. Kischka recorded his second goal of the season, while Antuna, whose initial shot hit the post, picked up his first assist of the season.
The defenses controlled most of the match making scoring opportunities few and far between. Both teams had seven shots each, while Cal State Dominguez Hills had an 8-5 edge in corner kicks, including a 5-0 advantage in the second half.
Cal State LA will open conference play on Friday with a road game at Chico State.
