FULLERTON -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team put the finishing touches on its 2023-24 season with a hard-fought road victory.
The Golden Eagles played magnificently while winning all three doubles contests to earn the point and then took three singles matches to pull out a 4-3 victory over Hope International on Wednesday at the Fullerton Tennis Center. Cal State LA (3-15) picked up its second road win of the season.
Cal State LA got off to a great start against Hope International (5-10), securing the doubles point with a clean sweep. The No. 1 doubles team of
Sarah Olmos and
Hideka Takamura beat Maldini Simic and Eva Echeverri, 6-2,
Sakura Kurokawa and
Alexandra Hincu beat Tiffany Beukes and Ellie Black at No. 2 doubles, 7-5, and
Rochelle Suarez and
Courtlyn Lam won for the second straight day at No. 3 doubles with a 6-1 victory over Nicole Escamillo and Lana Kamel.
Olmos prevailed in the match of the day at No. 2 singles. After dropping the first set, she came back to edge Echeverri, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 10-8.Â
Cal State LA also got wins at No. 4 singles from Suarez, who beat Tiffany Beukes, 7-6 (4), 6-1 and at No. 5 singles from
Lea Rolland, 6-1, 6-1, over Escamillo.
Takamura fell to Simic at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-0, Hincu fell at No. 3 singles to Black, 6-3, 6-2 and
Summer Roybal fell at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-1, to Kamel.
The win came one day after the Golden Eagles honored
Alexandra Hincu and
Sakura Kurokawa on Senior Day. Both players completed their Cal State LA careers on Wednesday.
