IRVINE -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team got a singles point from
Sarah Olmos, but that was all in a match against Westcliff on Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles dropped the doubles point and five of the six singles contests in a 6-1 loss to Westcliff, the No. 16-ranked NAIA team in the nation. Cal State LA fell to 1-7 overall, while Westcliff improved to 5-5.
Olmos had the highlight of the day with a hard-fought, three-set win at No. 2 singles, where she outlasted Hana Moss, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.Â
In the other singles matches,
Hideka Takamura fell at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-2, to Elena Gunfaus,
Sakura Kurokawa fell at No. 3 singles to Kanon Sorakuba, 6-3, 6-2,
Alexandra Hincu fell at No. 4 singles to Alessia Rada, 6-3, 6-1,
Rochelle Suarez fell at No. 5 singles to Shayee Sherif, 6-4, 6-2 and
Lea Rolland fell at No. 6 singles to Justina Haver.
In doubles, Olmos and Takamura were tied at Anna Ruiz and Elena Gunfaus, 4-4 at No. 1 doubles when the match was called. Kurokawa and Hincu fell at No. 2 doubles to Moss and Lois Tsui 6-3, and Suarez and
Courtlyn Lam fell at No. 3 doubles, 6-1, to Sorakuba and Sherif.
Cal State LA will return to action on March 15 with a home match against Point Loma at 1 p.m.7
