LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team weathered the storm, so to speak, but couldn't pull out a victory in a hard-fought match against Colorado Mesa.
The Golden Eagles and Mavericks saw their match halted by rain and lightening before Colorado Mesa pulled out a 5-1 victory. Cal State LA (1-9) came up on the short end of two three-set matches in singles and dropped a hotly-contested point in doubles.
Alexandra Hincu and
Sakura Kurokawa won at No. 2 doubles over Devyn Rodriguez and Julianna Campos, 6-2, but
Hideka Takamura and
Sarah Olmos fell at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, to Makenna Livingston and Issy Coman and
Courtlyn Lam and
Rochelle Suarez fell in a tight match at No. 3 doubles, 6-4, to Delia Maier and Kristen Thomas.
Kurokawa picked up the lone singles point for the Golden Eagles with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Thomas at No. 4 singles.
Olmos won the opening set before falling to Coman at No. 2 singles, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 and Hincu fell at No. 3 singles after forcing a third set against Rodriguez, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
Takamura dropped a 6-4, 6-0 decision to Livingston at No. 1 singles and Saurez had a good battle against Maier at No. 5 singles before falling, 6-4, 7-5. Lam's match against Campos at No. 6 singles was unfinished.
Cal State LA will now travel to Fresno and face Academy of Art on Friday at 4 p.m.
