LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY -- Cal State LA's
Emily Elliott made more history on Wednesday when she was named to the 2024 American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America team announced by the organization on Wednesday.
Elliott earned first-team honors for a second straight season after another record-breaking season, becoming the first player in program history to earn first-team honors twice. Elliott also earned second-team honors in 2022 and becomes the program's third three-time All-American, joining Karla Santos (2018-21) and Iona Lofrano (2013-15).
Santos earned All-America honorable mention in 2018 and 2019 and All-America second-team honors in 2021. Lofrano earned honorable mention in 2013, third-team honors in 2014 and second-team honors in 2015.
Elliott is one of only three first-team All-Americans in program history, joining Linda Saucedo in 2000 and Korina Kemp in 1984.
Earlier, she became the first player in program history to earn back-to-back AVCA West Region Player of the Year honors.
Elliott had another sensational season in 2024 and broke program and California Collegiate Athletic Association single-season records she set in 2023 when she led the Golden Eagles to their first-ever national championship. She leads the nation in total kills with 623, which eclipsed the record 606 she had last season. She also leads the nation in points per set for a second straight season with 6.24, which is better than the 5.69 she averaged last season. She is also second in kills per set with 5.28, which eclipses the 4.77 she averaged last season.
She also became the first player in CCAA history to surpass 2,000 kills in a career when she finished her final season with 2,011. The previous conference career mark was 1,843 held by Cal State San Bernardino's Kim Ford since 2003.
She also broke the single-match record for kills under the present scoring system with 35 in a five-set win over Seattle Pacific in September.
Elliott reached double-figures in kills in 27 of 29 matches and had 20 or more kills in 17 matches. She also had 30 or more kills four times.
Elliott was the only player from the CCAA to earn first-team honors. Samantha Campion, Caitlin Mueller and Sarah Ybarra of Cal Poly Pomona and Kimberly DeBoer of San Francisco State earned second-team honors and Ashley Robinson of Cal State San Bernardino earned third-team honors.
Also on Wednesday, Elliott earned second-team All-America honors from the Division II Conference Commissioners Association, becoming a two-time All-American from that organization.
