No. 2 Golden Eagles Storm Back For A CCAA Win

TURLOCK -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team faced its first second-half deficit of the season on Sunday, but struck back to claim another California Collegiate Athletic Association victory.

The Golden Eagles fell behind, 1-0, early in the second half, but bounced back nicely with goals from Erick Alamo and Oscar Warne to claim a 2-1 victory over Stanislaus State in Warrior Stadium. No. 2 Cal State LA (6-0-2, 1-0-1 CCAA) started sluggishly, but turned things up in the second half. After managing only two shots in the first half, the Golden Eagles outshot the Warriors, 14-2, in the second period.

Cal State LA stretched its unbeaten streak to 22 games dating back to last season and completed its first weekend of conference play with a 1-0-1 record, good for four points. The Golden Eagles are the defending CCAA regular-season and tournament champions.

The Warriors (4-3-2, 0-1-1 CCAA) opened the scoring in the 58th minute on a goal by Sammy Villanueva with an assist from Edgar Castaneda.

Less than three minutes later, Alamo scored for the second straight game with an assist, also for the second straight game, from Roei Mordechay. That duo accounted for the Golden Eagles' goal in a 1-1 tie at Chico State on Friday. Mordechay picked up his third assist, which leads the team.

Warne then picked up the game-winner, with an assist from Oscar Cardenas, coming off a corner kick, in the 77th minute. Warne's goal was his second of the season and the fifth of his career. The assist was the first of the season for Cardenas and the second of his career.

Cal State LA didn't allow a shot after surrendering the goal.

Cal State LA had a 16-6 advantage in shots for the game and a 10-3 edge in corner kicks.

Cal State LA goalkeeper Diego Bravo made one save, while Stanislaus State goalkeeper Angel Ruiz-Hernandez made seven saves.

Cardenas had a game-high four shots for the Golden Eagles, while Mordechay, Warne, Alamo, Emil Kischka and Kento Tani had two shots each.

Cal State LA will return to action with a home game against Sonoma State on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
