STANFORD -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team competed for a second straight evening in an exhibition game against a top NCAA Division I program.
The Golden Eagles were tied after one quarter, 19-19, before ultimately falling to perennial power Stanford, 91-70, Wednesday night in Maples Pavilion. Cal State LA played the University of Arizona on Tuesday in Tucson.
Sofia Fidelus had a remarkable game for the Golden Eagles, pouring in 18 points in 29 effective minutes.
Gabriella Rones also hit double figures in scoring with 13 points.
Nunu Agara had a game-high 25 points to lead six players in double figures for Stanford.
Nevaeh Asiasi had eight points for the Golden Eagles, while
Lily Buggs and
Ashanti Dias had seven points each.
Cal State LA shot 44.1 percent (26-of-59), including 42.3 percent (11-of-26) from 3-point range. The Golden Eagles were 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. Stanford shot 46.9 percent (30-of-64), including 34.5 percent (10-o-29) from 3-point range. The Cardinal were 21-of-23 from the free-throw line. Stanford had a 41-26 rebounding edge and committed 13 turnovers to 15 for the Golden Eagles.
Cal State LA will play its third and final exhibition game next Wednesday at Long Beach State before opening the regular-season next Friday against Seattle Pacific.Â
