Golden Eagles Keep Title Hopes Alive With Road Win

TURLOCK -- Cal State LA's women's volleyball team kept its California Collegiate Athletic Association title hopes alive with a four-set win at Stanislaus State on Friday.

The Golden Eagles (16-9, 14-3 CCAA) clinched a first-round bye in next week's conference tournament with a 25-18, 29-31, 25-16, 25-23 win in Fitzpatrick Arena. Cal State LA trails first-place Cal State San Bernardino by one game with one game remaining on Saturday. The Golden Eagles need a win at Chico State and a Cal State San Bernardino loss at home to Sonoma State for a share of the conference crown. Cal State LA won the CCAA title in 2022.

Emily Elliott, the CCAA Player of the Week last week, had another big performance on Friday, leading the team with 21 kills and five aces. Iane Henke had 17 kills, three aces and 10 digs, while Ashley Dittmann had nine kills and 11 digs.

Ellison Weaver had nine kills to lead Stanislaus State (8-18, 3-14 CCAA).

Haley Roundtree had eight kills and seven blocks, while Eliza Cannon had 24 set assists and four kills.

After the Golden Eagles took the opening set, the Warriors fought off six set points in the second frame before evening the match with a 29-27 victory.

Cal State LA, though, regrouped and took the third set. A block by Elliott and Roundtree and back-to-back aces broke an 8-8 tie and a strong serving run by Zuhal Cetin led the Golden Eagles to a 19-10 lead. Kills by Dittmann and Henke ultimately ended the set.

Cal State LA trailed for most of the fourth set and was down 23-22 before two kills by Henke and a kill by Elliott ended the match.

Cal State LA will conclude the regular season with a match at Chico State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
