LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's volleyball team completed a weekend sweep of travel partner Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday in University Gym.
Cal State LA (11-7, 9-1 CCAA) ran its winning streak to seven with a 25-14, 25-19, 25-18 California Collegiate Athletic Association victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills. The match began the second half of conference play.
The Golden Eagles raced to an 11-1 lead in the opening set and never looked back in their second win over the Toros in as many days. Cal State LA had a 34-18 advantage in kills and hit at a .225 percentage to a negative .083 for Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Haley Roundtree had eight kills in the first two sets and hit at a .545 percentage. She also had two blocks.
Emily Elliott also had eight kills to go along with two service aces and two blocks.
Iane Henke had six kills, two aces and four blocks.
Ava Hurry had five kills and three blocks for Cal State Dominguez Hills (8-9, 3-7 CCAA), while Bailey Fuches and Teagan Irish had four kills each.
Ashley Dittmann had seven kills and hit at a .600 percentage to go along with two blocks for the Golden Eagles, while
Eliza Cannon had 17 set assists, seven digs and one ace.
The Golden Eagles also had a 6-2 edge in service aces and a 12-7 advantage in blocks.
Matalasi Danielson and
Rachel Lowe had five blocks each for the Golden Eagles.
Cal State LA scored the first six points of the match behind the serving of Henke, who had a kill and two aces during the stretch. Roundtree had four kills in a row and a block to help the Golden Eagles extend their lead to 12-2. An ace by Cannon boosted the lead to 18-5 and a block by Elliott and Danielson made it 20-7. The Golden Eagles took a 23-9 lead after a kill by Dittmann and got the final two points on attack errors.
The Golden Eagles led just 13-12 in the second set before taking a 15-12 lead after a service error and a kill by Dittmann and then extended the advantage to 21-13 after scoring six straight points, five behind the serving of Elliott, who had back-to-back aces to end the run. The Toros fought off four set points, but Cal State LA got a kill by
Rebecca Topete to end the set.
The third set was close until a 5-0 run by the Golden Eagles extended a slim 16-14 lead to 21-14. Lowe recorded blocks with Elliott and Henke and Elliott delivered a kill to end the run. A kill by Danielson ultimately ended the match.
Cal State LA will return to action next Friday with a home match against Cal State Monterey Bay at 5 p.m.
