Golden Eagles Remain Third In NCAA Regional Poll

LOS ANGELES – Cal State LA's women's volleyball team retains its hold on the No. 3 ranking in the final official NCAA Division II West Region poll released by the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Committee on Wednesday.

The Golden Eagles, who reached the NCAA West Regional championship match a year ago, are seeking their fourth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. Cal State LA (21-5) ended a long playoff drought in 2018 when the Golden Eagles reached the tournament for the first time since 2010.

The Great Northwest Athletic Conference holds the top two spots in the poll with Alaska Anchorage (25-2) holding the No. 1 position and Western Washington (19-5) standing at No. 2. Cal State LA, which won its first California Collegiate Athletic Association title since 2005 and is the No. 1 seed in this week's conference tournament, is No. 3 and followed by Cal State San Bernardino (20-5) at No. 4, Cal Poly Pomona (20-5) at No. 5, Central Washington (15-10) at No. 6, Sonoma State (19-7) at No. 7, Chaminade (20-7) at No. 8, Point Loma (19-7) at No. 9 and Seattle Pacific (12-12) at No. 10.

Each of the three conferences in the West Region has an automatic bid and the next five at-large teams will qualify for the NCAA Division II playoffs. The CCAA gives its automatic bid to the winner of the conference tournament, which will be held this week at Cal State San Marcos. The Golden Eagles will face the winner of a first-round match between Cal State East Bay and Sonoma State in a semifinal match on Friday at 3 p.m. The CCAA Tournament final will be on Saturday at 3 p.m. Cal State LA is seeking its first CCAA Tournament title.

The NCAA Tournament field will be announced on Sunday.
