SAN BERNARDINO -- Cal State LA's men's soccer program notched another victory before Friday's California Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Soccer Tournament semifinal against Sonoma State.
Anton Olofsson was presented the Elite 13 Award for men's soccer by CCAA Associate Commissioner/SWA Carol Rivera in a pregame ceremony. Olofsson, a junior majoring in business administration, becomes the fourth Cal State LA men's soccer player and second straight to receive the award, following Anton Lindbom in 2017, Samuel Croucher in 2018 and Arvine Esteva in 2021. Originally called the CCAA Championship Scholar Award, it was rebranded in 2021 to bring into focus the 13 CCAA championship sports that offer the honor.
The Elite 13 Award recognizes the academic and athletic achievement of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached competition at the Conference championship level while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average participating in each CCAA-sponsored championship. The award originated in 2017 and Cal State LA has had student-athletes win the honor in four of the first six years. The student-athlete must be at least a junior or senior in academic standing with at least 60 units completed.
Olofsson has been a major contributor for the Golden Eagles since joining the program in 2020 after spending his first year in college at Notre Dame de Namur. He earned 2020-21 CCAA All-Academic honors in his first year at Cal State LA while he and the team were unable to compete due to COVID-19.
Last year, he made an immediate impact with the Golden Eagles, appearing in all 23 games with 17 starts and helping the Golden Eagles in the 2021 NCAA Division II championship. He scored four goals and one assist for nine points and also earned 2021-22 CCAA All-Academic and 2021 Fall Honor Roll recognition.
He has had another fantastic season for the Golden Eagles in 2022 and has contributed one goal and three assists for five points in 18 appearances with nine starts after Friday's 2-1 win over Sonoma State..
