LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's volleyball team, which earned the program's first NCAA Division II West Region championship since 2005 on Saturday, learned its seeding and NCAA Championships quarterfinal opponent on Monday.

The Golden Eagles earned the No. 4 seed and will face No. 5 seed Gannon, the champions of the Atlantic Region on Thursday, Dec. 1 at the NCAA Fall Festival in Seattle in the third of four quarterfinal matches. The eight regional champions were reseeded by the NCAA Volleyball Committee with Concordia-St. Paul earning the No. 1 seed. Barry, West Texas A&M, Cal State LA, Gannon, Wingate, Missouri-St. Louis and Southern New Hampshire filling the remaining seeds.

The Cal State LA-Gannon match will take place at 5 p.m. on Dec. 1 at Seattle Pacific. The winner will face the winner of the Concordia-St. Paul-Southern New Hampshire match on Friday, Dec. 2 at 6:30 p.m. with the championship match being held on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 3 p.m.

The volleyball championships are part of the NCAA Division II Fall Festival, which will crown six Division II champions for men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country, field hockey and volleyball. Cal State LA will join the men's cross country team from Chico State, women's cross country teams from Stanislaus State and Chico State and Cal Poly Pomona's men's cross country runner Ricardo Vargas as representing the California Collegiate Athletic Association at the Fall Festival. The Golden Eagles, Chico State's men's cross country team and Stanislaus State's women's cross country team won West Region championships.

Cal State LA, which is making its first trip to the Elite Eight in 17 years, will be facing a Gannon program that has reached the Elite Eight for the fourth time in five seasons. The Golden Knights have reached the Final Four twice in that span, including last season when they fell to eventual champion Tampa in the semifinals. Gannon (29-5) has a 17-match winning streak heading into the NCAA Championships and captured both PSAC and Atlantic Region tournament championships on its home court.

The Golden Eagles, meanwhile, after winning the CCAA regular-season championship for the first time since 2005, picked it up a notch after falling to Sonoma State in the conference tournament semifinals. They were spectacular in the West Regional, beating Sonoma State in four sets in the first round and then sweeping Central Washington and Chaminade for the title.

Emily Elliott, Iane Henke and Ashley Dittmann were all named to the All-Tournament team and spearheaded a determined team effort by the Golden Eagles, who are 22-3 over their last 25 matches.

Cal State LA is making a return to the Elite Eight after legendary coach Bill Lawler and Hall of Famer Tiare Tuitama enjoyed some success in 2005. That year, the Golden Eagles beat Lock Haven in five sets in the quarterfinals before falling to Nebraska-Kearney in the semifinals. In 1992, the Golden Eagles beat North Dakota State in three sets in the first round before falling to host Portland State in the semis.
