LOS ANGELES – Cal State LA's women's volleyball team has been ranked No. 3 in the official NCAA Division II West Region poll released by the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Committee on Wednesday.
The Golden Eagles, who reached the NCAA West Regional championship match a year ago, are seeking their fourth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. Cal State LA (17-5) ended a long playoff drought in 2018 when the Golden Eagles reached the tournament for the first time since 2010.
The Great Northwest Athletic Conference holds the top two spots in the poll with Alaska Anchorage (23-2) holding the No. 1 position and Western Washington (17-5) standing at No. 2. Cal State LA, which clinched at least a share of the CCAA regular-season title last weekend and can claim sole ownership of the championship with a win in its final two matches, is No. 3. The Golden Eagles are followed by Cal State San Bernardino (18-5) at No. 4, Cal Poly Pomona (18-5) at No. 5, Central Washington (14-9) at No. 6, Sonoma State (18-6) at No. 7, Northwest Nazarene (16-7) at No. 8, Chaminade (19-7) at No. 9 and Point Loma (18-6) at No. 10.
Each of the three conferences in the West Region has an automatic bid and the next five at-large teams will qualify for the NCAA Division II playoffs. The CCAA gives its automatic bid to the winner of the conference tournament, which will be held at Cal State San Marcos on Nov. 10-12. Cal State LA is one win away from clinching the No. 1 seed and earning a first-round bye.
Cal State LA will be at Chico State on Friday and Stanislaus State on Saturday to conclude the regular season.
The final published West Region poll will be released next Wednesday with the official tournament field being announced on Sunday, Nov. 13.
