Emily Elliott Earns D2CCA All-West Region Honors

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Cal State LA's Emily Elliott was named to the 2022 D2CCA All-West Region Team, the organization announced on Thursday morning on the eve of the NCAA Division II West Regional.

Elliott was one of seven players named to the second team in voting by the region's sports information directors. Elliott helped lead the Golden Eagles to the California Collegiate Athletic Association regular-season championship and a No. 3 seed in the regionals, which start today at Western Washington. Cal State LA will face No. 6 seed Sonoma State in a first-round match set to begin at 5 p.m.

Ten of the 14 players named to the D2CCA All-Region Team are competing in the regionals.

Alaska Anchorage senior Eve Stephens was named the region's Player of the Year. She was also named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference's Player of the Year and led her team to the GNAC title and the No. 1 seed in the regional.

Elliott is having a tremendous season in her second year with the Golden Eagles. The 2021 CCAA Freshman of the Year, Elliott leads the Golden Eagles and is third in the CCAA in kills with 303 (3.48 per set) and points with 354.5 (4.07 per set). She is also third on the team with 22 service aces, third in blocks with 56 and fifth in digs with 118. Elliott earned first-team All-CCAA honors and was named to the CCAA All-Tournament team.

She is having an outstanding follow-up to her first season with the Golden Eagles in 2021 when she earned second-team All-CCAA honors and was named the CCAA Freshman of the Year. She was also named to the 2021 NCAA West Regional All-Tournament team.

Elliott was joined on the second team by Gabby Rawson of Stanislaus State, Lydia Morohunfola of Cal State San Bernardino, Lataisiia Saulala of Chaminade, Calley Heilborn of Western Washington, Tamiya Wilson of San Francisco State and Alexia Byrnes of Chaminade. 

Stephens was joined on the first team by Courtney Dyer of Point Loma, Emma Daoud-Hebert of Central Washington, Chloe Roetcisoender of Western Washington, Daisy Duke of Cal Poly Pomona, Abigail Nua of Point Loma and Ellen Floyd of Alaska Anchorage.  

The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
