Golden Eagles Conclude Season At CCAA Tournament

Cal State LA Press Conference

POMONA -- Cal State LA's women's soccer team saw its season come to an end Friday night against No. 1 seed Sonoma State at the CCAA Women's Soccer Tournament.

The No. 5 seed Golden Eagles, who used a pair of exciting results to get into the tournament, were unable to solve the Seawolves on Friday and fell by a score of 2-0. The game was scoreless at halftime, but the Seawolves scored twice in a nine-minute span of the second half to earn the win. Cal State LA (6-10-3) was making its eighth straight appearance in the conference tournament.

Irma Pinzon, who was named to the All-CCAA first team for a third straight year earlier in the day, concluded her outstanding career with another strong game. She had four of Cal State LA's 10 shots, including one on goal.

Thaiz Hernandez had a pair of shots, while Erin Schrock, Miyah Coleman, Morgan Patea and Bryanna Avina had shots for the Golden Eagles.

Olivia Spanish made one save in goal for the Golden Eagles, while Sonoma State's Emily Masursky and Phoeby Barnes combined for four saves and the shutout.

Sonoma State (14-4) had a 13-10 edge in shots for the game, including an 8-6 edge in the second half.

Cal State LA completed a memorable season that included a tremendous final week. First, the Golden Eagles beat Cal Poly Pomona in double overtime to reach the tournament as a No. 5 seed on the final day of the regular season and then they traveled to San Francisco State and advanced past the Gators on penalty kicks last Sunday after a 1-1 draw.
