Box Score SAN FRANCISCO -- Cal State LA's women's soccer team relied once again on its sturdy defense to secure a point in its California Collegiate Athletic Association opener at San Francisco State.
The Golden Eagles and Gators battled to a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes of regulation and two overtime periods Friday at San Francisco State's Cox Stadium. Cal State LA (0-5-2, 0-0-1) allowed one goal or less for the fifth time in seven matches and recorded its first shutout.
Olivia Spanish made one save in the second half and both overtime periods for the Golden Eagles, while
Areli Reyes was in charge of the goal for the scoreless first half. Marcella Salyer made one save for the Gators (2-5-1, 0-1-1), who recorded their second shutout of the season.
Both teams had six shots in the game and both had one shot on goal. San Francisco State had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks, but Cal State LA defended well to keep the game scoreless.
Irma Pinzon had two shots for the Golden Eagles, including a bid from an angle in the 82nd minute that went wide and the other in the first overtime that went high and wide.
Natalie Reynoso had the lone shot on goal for the Golden Eagles, while
Erin Schrock,
Faith Baumgartner,
Melody Landphear also had shots.
Cal State LA will return to action on Sunday with a match at Sonoma State beginning at 11:30 a.m.
