LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's baseball team fell behind early and never could recover in a California Collegiate Athletic Association loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills.
The Golden Eagles fell behind, 3-0, in the first inning and fell to the Toros, 4-1, Friday night at Reeder Field. Cal State LA (4-9, 3-6 CCAA) managed only five hits - all singles - and lost its fifth straight games. Cal State Dominguez Hills (6-9, 5-4 CCAA) collected eight hits, including a three-run home run from Angel Estrada.
Saxon Andross had a rocky first inning, but settled down nicely after that. He gave up the three-run home run to Estrada with two outs in the first, but allowed only one run after that. Andross (2-1) went 5 1/3 innings and gave up seven hits and four runs. He walked one and struck out seven.
Brent Jacques had his best outing of the season and blanked the Toros over 3 2/3 innings. He allowed only one hit and struck out three.
Cal State LA's offense, though, couldn't get untracked against Cal State Dominguez Hills starter Tristan Garnett and reliever Ricardo Serrano, who combined to limit the Golden Eagles to just five hits and one run. Garnett worked around seven walks and gave up just one run and two hits through five innings. Serrano tossed four shutout innings to get his first save of the season. He allowed only three hits.
The Golden Eagles scored their only run in the bottom of the first inning.

Allen Pacheco drew walks and
Johnny Pacheco scored on a run-scoring single by
Jeff Zordani. Zordani, though, was thrown out at second by Cal State Dominguez Hills centerfielder Aaron Greenfield and Garnett escaped the inning without further damage with a strikeout.
Cal State LA stranded eight runners on base.
The series will continue with a single game on Saturday at Reeder Field beginning at 5 p.m.
