Golden Eagles Rally For Big Win On Homecoming

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team made its final regular-season home game of the season an exciting one on Homecoming.

The Golden Eagles trailed for most of the game, but a big fourth-quarter performance lifted them to a 58-55 win over Stanislaus State Thursday in a California Collegiate Athletic Association game in University Gym. Cal State LA (14-12, 13-7 CCAA) remains in fourth place in the conference, one-half game out of second place Cal Poly Pomona and Humboldt State and 1 1/2 games ahead of Chico State.

Madison Adams led three Golden Eagles in double figures with 16 points, including nine straight points to start the fourth quarter that helped Cal State LA erase a 46-40 deficit and forge a 49-46 lead. The Golden Eagles then led the rest of the way.

Rebeccah DiRegolo had 11 points and four rebounds, while Christine Delapina had 11 points, six assists and five rebounds.

Zahria Hendrix had 12 points to lead Stanislaus State, while Brittney Livingston had 10 points and four rebounds.

Rikke Fabricius had nine points and seven rebounds for the Golden Eagles and was honored before the game during Senior Night festivities.

Cal State LA shot 34 percent for the game (16-of-47) and hit 5-of-22 from 3-point range. Adams did most of the damage from long-range, hitting 4-of-9 from behind the arc. Cal State LA was 21-of-25 from the free-throw line.

Stanislaus State shot just 29.8 percent (17-of-57) and was 4-of-20 from 3-point range. The Warriors were 17-of-22 from the free-throw line.

Stanislaus State had a 32-25 rebounding edge and committed 17 turnovers to 16 for the Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half, 30-19, with 1:43 left in the second quarter. Alyssa Fisher, though, got the Golden Eagles back into the game with five consecutive points. Delapina added a pair of free throws before halftime to make it 30-26 at the break.

A 3-pointer by Delapina, a free throw by Fabricius and a 3-pointer by Adams gave the Golden Eagles a 33-31 lead early in the third quarter, but Stanislaus State regrouped and surged to a 46-40 lead entering the fourth quarter.

That's when Adams took over, burying a 3-pointer, hitting three free throws after being fouled on a 3-point attempt and hitting another 3-pointer to give the Golden Eagles a 49-46 lead. A layup by Rebeccah DiRegolo gave the Golden Eagles a 51-46 lead and a three-point play by DiRegolo boosted the lead to 54-48.

Cal State LA took its biggest lead, 56-48, after a pair of free throws by Delapina with 2:17 to go. Stanislaus State, though, rallied and got to within a single point, 56-55, after a 3-pointer by Caitlin Keding with 1:04 to go. The Warriors got the ball back with a chance to take the lead, but Adams rebounded a miss and Delapina was fouled and made both free throws with 10 seconds left. A long 3-pointer was missed by the Warriors and rebounded by Mackenzie Barnes with two seconds to go.

Cal State LA will return to action on Thursday with a big road game at Cal State San Marcos.
