The Golden Eagles rallied nicely in the opening set. Cal State LA used a 5-0 run to erase a 22-18 deficit and broke a 22-22 tie after a block by Crenshaw and Williams. After the Cougars tied it at 23-23, a kill by Sherman and a bad set after a Caitlyn Bato gave the Golden Eagles a 25-23 set win.

Cal State San Marcos broke 10-10 ties in each of the next two sets and pulled away at the end of each frame.

Cal State LA trailed for most of the fourth set as well, falling behind 14-8 before beginning a determined comeback. An ace by Sherman gave the Golden Eagles a 19-18 lead and a kill by Williams gave the Golden Eagles their last lead, 20-19. The Cougars responded with a strong run and took a 24-21 lead. An attack error and an ace by Santos pulled the Golden Eagles to within 24-23, but a block by the Cougars ended the match.
