LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's volleyball team completed another impressive week with a three-set win over Cal State Dominguez Hills.
The Golden Eagles were strong from start to finish Saturday in a 25-21, 25-19, 25-19 victory over the Toros in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match in University Gym. Cal State LA (16-1, 8-1 CCAA) won its third straight match and its second this week. The Golden Eagles started the week with a hard-fought five-set win at Cal State San Marcos.
Karla Santos had a tremendous match with 17 kills and six service aces, while
Daisy Crenshaw was outstanding as well with 10 kills in 13 swings for a .615 percentage. She also had five blocks.
Alejandra Negron had 10 kills and four blocks.
Tati Yandall had seven kills and eight digs for the Toros (5-12, 0-9 CCAA).
Kelsey Molnar had 34 set assists and eight digs and
Jeshmarie Suarez had a match-high 11 digs.
Cal State LA hit at a .269 percentage and limited the Toros to just .092. Both teams had seven blocks.
Cal State LA had seven aces - six of them by Santos - and 12 errors, while Cal State Dominguez Hills had four aces and three errors.
The Golden Eagles started quickly and opened up an 18-12 lead in the opening set after a kill by
Riley Morland. The Toros, though, fought back and pulled to within 20-19 after an ace by Yandall. Back-to-back kills by Santos stopped the run, but the Toros got to within one point again at 22-21, but a ball handling error, an ace by Molnar and a kill by Crenshaw ended the set.
Cal State LA had to dig itself out of a 10-4 hole in the second set. The Golden Eagles still trailed 15-11, but a kill by Crenshaw, two straight aces by Santos, a block by Negron and Crenshaw and a kill by Negron pushed the Golden Eagles ahead, 16-15. The Toros tied it at 16-16, but a kill by Crenshaw, two hitting errors and a block by
Daisia LaBrie and Negron gave the Golden Eagles a 20-16 lead. Cal State LA eventually took the set on a kill by LaBrie.
Cal State LA rushed out to a 17-9 lead in the third set and fought off a late Toro rally. Cal State Dominguez Hills closed to within 22-19, but a service error, attack error and a block by LaBrie and Molnar ended the match.
Cal State LA will return to action on Thursday with a match at Sonoma State.
