The Golden Eagles hit at a sizzling .483 clip while taking the first set. The Golden Eagles broke a 6-6 tie with seven straight points and benefited from a strong serving run by Suarez. A kill by LaBrie gave the Golden Eagles a 7-6 lead and the run included back-to-back kills by Santos and two kills by Crenshaw. Cal State LA maintained the lead throughout the set, moving to a 23-18 advantage after a kill by Alejandra Negron, getting to set point after a kill by Sherman and closing out the set on a block by Negron and LaBrie.

Cal State LA was unable to sustain its opening-set play and dropped the final three sets. Cal State LA led 9-8 in the second set after a kill by Sherman and was still tied at 11-11 after another kill by Sherman. Cal State San Bernardino, though, scored the next five points to take control. A kill by Molnar made it 19-16, but that was as close as Cal State LA would get.

Cal State LA was even at 8-8 in the third set, but the Coyotes went on an 8-0 run and never looked back.

Cal State LA hung tough in the opening stages of the fourth set, taking a 4-3 lead after a kill by Sherman and pulling to within 9-8 after a kill by Crenshaw.
