Golden Eagles Pick Up Big Win Over 'Jacks

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team turned on the jets at just the right time Friday night in a key California Collegiate Athletic Association contest.

The Golden Eagles erased a 10-point, third-quarter deficit and stormed past Humboldt State, 65-61, in University Gym. Cal State LA (9-12, 8-7 CCAA) got a big second half from Alyssa Fisher, who hit all five of her 3-pointers in the second half and wound up with a team-high 15 points.

Humboldt State (10-9, 9-5 CCAA) was led by Tyla Turner, who had a game-high 23 points.

The win was a big one for the Golden Eagles, who remain in a tie for sixth place with Cal State Dominguez Hills. The top eight teams in the conference will qualify for the CCAA Championship Tournament. Cal State LA has seven conference games remaining.

Fisher picked up two early fouls and played only two scoreless minutes in the first half, but she had an outstanding second half. Fisher was 5-of-8 from 3-point range and the Golden Eagles were 8-of-16 from behind the arc. Madison Adams had a pair of 3-pointers and Christine Delapina had one.

Rikke Fabricius had 12 points and nine rebounds and Rachael DiRegolo had 12 points and five rebounds.

Riann Thayer had 17 points for Humboldt State.

Adams finished with eight points and four rebounds for the Golden Eagles, while Delapina had eight points, six rebounds and four assists.

Cal State LA shot 42 percent for the game (21-of-50) and was also 15-of-18 from the free-throw line. Humboldt State shot 30.8 percent (20-of-65) and was 8-of-28 from 3-point range. The 'Jacks were 13-of-14 from the free-throw line.

Cal State LA had a big 46-29 rebounding edge and overcame 24 turnovers.

The Golden Eagles trailed by as many as nine points in the first half before pulling to within 31-26 at halftime. They then fell behind by 10 points, 48-38, with 2:45 to go in the third period before beginning their comeback. Fisher hit a pair of 3-pointers to slice the deficit to 48-44 entering the final period.

Another 3-pointer by Fisher made it 54-53 midway through the fourth quarter and Delapina hit a 3-pointer to give the Golden Eagles a 56-54 lead with 4:27 to go. Fabricius made nice move and basket to stretch the lead to 58-54 and Cal State LA led the rest of the way. The Golden Eagles made five of six from the free-throw line in the final 29 seconds to protect the lead.

Cal State LA will return to action on Saturday with a home game against Chico State.
