POMONA -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team suffered through one of those nights Saturday in a California Collegiate Athletic Association game at Cal Poly Pomona.
The Golden Eagles shot just 23.6 percent for the game and dropped a 53-38 decision to the Broncos in Kellogg Arena. Cal State LA (8-12, 7-7 CCAA) had a two-game winning streak snapped and couldn't carry any momentum from its win at Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday.
Rachael DiRegolo had 11 points, six rebounds and five blocks for the Golden Eagles, while
Madison Adams hit three 3-pointers and had nine points.
Rebeccah DiRegolo had seven points and four rebounds.
Jordyn Shane had a game-high 15 points for Cal Poly Pomona (13-5).
Rikke Fabricius had a game-high 10 rebounds for the Golden Eagles to go along with four points and four assists.
The Golden Eagles made just 13-of-55 field-goal attempts (23.6 percent) and were only 3-of-21 from 3-point range (14.3 percent). The shooting woes even extended to the free-throw line, where the Golden Eagles were just 9-of-16 (56.3 percent). Cal Poly Pomona shot 34 percent (18-of-53) and made 4-of-15 from 3-point range and 13-of-21 from the free-throw line.
Cal State LA was out-rebounded, 42-41 and committed 13 turnovers to 11 for the Broncos.
The Golden Eagles started well and used a 9-0 run to take an 11-4 lead after one quarter. A basket by
Rebeccah DiRegolo tied the game at 4-4 and a 3-pointer by Adams gave Cal State LA the lead.
Rachael DiRegolo scored consecutive baskets to give the Golden Eagles a seven-point lead.
Cal State LA took a 20-17 lead late in the second quarter after two free throws by Delapina and settled for a 20-19 halftime lead.
Things got away from the Golden Eagles in the third quarter when they were outscored, 20-5.
Cal State LA fell behind by 16 points early in the fourth quarter, but a free throw by
Chiderah Uzowuru, a 3-pointer by Adams and a layup by
Rachael DiRegolo pulled the Golden Eagles to within 10 points, 41-31, and a 3-pointer by Adams closed the gap to 45-36 with 3:54 to go.
The Golden Eagles, though, managed only two points the rest of the way.
Cal State LA will return to action on Friday with a home game against Humboldt State.
