SAN BERNARDINO -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team was outstanding Thursday in a big California Collegiate Athletic Association win at Cal State San Bernardino.
The Golden Eagles took control of the game with a dominant second quarter and went on to an impressive 61-43 victory in Coussoulis Arena. Cal State LA (8-11, 7-6 CCAA) won its second straight game while picking up its second road victory of the season. The Golden Eagles also completed a season sweep of the Coyotes (6-11, 4-9 CCAA).
Rikke Fabricius had 12 points and eight rebounds to lead a balanced Cal State LA attack, while
Chiderah Uzowuru had 12 points and six rebounds.
Madison Adams scored 10 points.
Arianna Knox led Cal State San Bernardino with nine points and six rebounds.
Christine Delapina had a strong performance with eight points and seven assists, while
Rachael DiRegolo had six points and eight rebounds.
Rebeccah DiRegolo had six points.
Cal State LA shot 40.4 percent (21-of-52) and held Cal State San Bernardino to just 27.3 percent shooting (18-of-66). The Golden Eagles were 3-of-13 from 3-point range, while the Coyotes were 3-of-14. Cal State LA was 16-of-26 from the free-throw line, while Cal State San Bernardino was 4-of-9. Cal State LA had a big 48-32 rebounding edge.
The Golden Eagles trailed after one quarter, 12-10, and were down 16-14 early in the second period before embarking on a game-turning 12-0 run. Fabricius tied the game at 16-16 with a jumper in the lane and a 3-pointer by Adams gave Cal State LA the lead for good.
Mackenzie Barnes added a basket, Adams hit another 3-pointer and Uzowuru scored to give the Golden Eagles a 26-16 lead. A late free throw by
Alyssa Fisher gave the Golden Eagles a 32-22 halftime lead.
Fabricius opened the third quarter with a 3-pointer and Fisher made a layup to extend the lead to 37-22 and the Golden Eagles took their biggest lead after a layup by Uzowuru made it 47-28 after three quarters.
Cal State LA didn't let the lead dip below 14 points in the fourth quarter.
Cal State LA will return to action on Saturday with a road game at Cal Poly Pomona.
