Golden Eagles Bounce Back In Win Over SF State

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team got its offense back on track Saturday in an important California Collegiate Athletic Association game against San Francisco State.

One night after struggling mightily against Sonoma State, the Golden Eagles shot nearly 51 percent and went on to a 76-67 win over the Gators in University Gym. Cal State LA (7-11, 6-6 CCAA) began the second half of conference play with a much-needed victory and earned a weekend split.

Rikke Fabricius had 19 points, five rebounds and five assists to lead the Golden Eagles, while Madison Adams had a big game with 18 points, including four 3-pointers.

Rachel Iozzia had 16 points and six assists for the Gators (4-11, 2-10 CCAA), while Courtenay Brown had 12 points.

Christine Delapina had eight points and eight assists for Cal State LA, while Chiderah Uzowuru had eight points. Rebeccah DiRegolo had seven points and Rachael DiRegolo had six points.

Cal State LA shot 50.8 percent for the game (30-of-59), including a sizzling 63 percent in the first half when the Golden Eagles opened up a 43-27 lead. Cal State LA led by as many as 20 points in the game. The Golden Eagles were 6-of-16 from 3-point range and hit 10-of-12 from the free-throw line.

San Francisco State shot 41.3 percent (19-of-46) and was 9-of-17 from 3-point range. The Gators were 20-of-31 from the free-throw line.

Cal State LA was out-rebounded, 33-30 and committed 15 turnovers to 14 for the Gators.

The Golden Eagles trailed early, 8-7, but closed the first quarter on a 19-3 run to open up a 26-11 lead after one quarter. Fabricius scored the final seven points of the quarter, including a late 3-pointer. Back-to-back layups by Rachael DiRegolo to open the second quarter staked the Golden Eagles to a 30-11 lead and Cal State LA settled for a 43-27 lead at halftime.

Cal State LA took its biggest lead, 51-31, after a layup by Fabricius  with 6:14 to go in the third quarter, but the Gators sliced the advantage to eight points, 53-45, before consecutive baskets by Uzowuru and Mackenzie Barnes boosted the lead back to 12 points. Cal State LA led 59-48 entering the final period.

Adams hit a pair of 3-pointers to enable the Golden Eagles to match their biggest advantage of the game, 74-54, with five minutes to play and Cal State LA kept double-digit leads until the final seconds.

Cal State LA will return to action on Thursday with a road game at Cal State San Bernardino.
