Golden Eagles Post Impressive Road Victory

SAN DIEGO -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team took its winning ways on the road Saturday and picked up a big NCAA West Region victory.

The Golden Eagles got goals from Antonio Rosas, Julian Zamora and Miguel Galvan Lara and three saves from Steven Barrera to post a 3-0 win over PacWest Conference contender Point Loma. Cal State LA (2-0) picked up its second shutout of the season with Barrera having another sensational game and the Golden Eagle defense turning in another solid performance.

Cal State LA grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute and then added a pair of second-half goals to extend the winning margin.

The Golden Eagles enjoyed a 14-10 advantage in shots and a 7-4 edge in corner kicks. Barrera made all three of his saves in the second half, while Point Loma goalkeeper Wiktor Lasota made all three of his saves in the first half.

Rosas opened the scoring for the Golden Eagles when he headed in a beautifully-placed corner kick by Galvan Lara in the 32nd minute.

The Golden Eagles preserved their 1-0 lead with some outstanding defense before finally pulling away with a pair of goals in an eight-minute span of the second half. Zamora scored his second goal of the season in the 79th minute to make it 2-0. He outran a pair of Point Loma defenders to accept a pass from David Elizaga and snuck the ball neatly past Lasota.

Galvan Lara made it 3-0 in the 87th minute with assists from Elizaga and Eddie Leon.

Cal State LA will return to action on Thursday with a 7 p.m. contest against another top PacWest opponent, Concordia-Irvine.
