TURLOCK -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team extended Stanislaus State into overtime on a tough back-to-back road trip in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.
The Golden Eagles had a pair of potential game-winning shots blocked at the end of regulation and ended up falling to the Warriors, 63-60, Saturday in the Ed and Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena. Cal State LA (3-7, 2-2 CCAA), which beat San Francisco State in San Francisco on Friday, split conference games for the second straight time. Stanislaus State (5-3, 2-2 CCAA), which beat the Golden Eagles in a first-round CCAA Tournament game last season in Turlock, evened its conference record.
Madison Adams had 17 points and five rebounds to lead the Golden Eagles, while
Rebeccah DiRegolo had a 14-point, 13-rebound double-double.
Rikke Fabricius just missed a double-double with nine points and 16 rebounds.
Mackenzie Barnes had 11 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Zahria Hendrix had 18 points to lead the Warriors, while Lizzy Alexander had 11 points and Brittney Livingston had 10 points.
Chiderah Uzowuru had five points and seven rebounds, while
Christine Delapina had four points and four rebounds.
Cal State LA struggled a bit offensively and hit just 29.3 percent of its shots (22-of-75), including a 6-of-27 performance from 3-point range. The Golden Eagles were also just 10-of-18 from the free-throw line.
Stanislaus State shot 37.8 percent (23-of-61) and was 6-of-13 from 3-point range. The Warriors were 11-of-16 from the free-throw line.
Cal State LA had a huge 58-29 rebounding edge and committed 21 turnovers to 17 for the Warriors.
The Golden Eagles started well and led by as many as eight points in the first half before settling for leads of 19-15 after one quarter and 32-26 at halftime. The Golden Eagles held their lead until late in the third quarter and, after falling behind 41-40, a free throw by Uzowuru tied it entering the fourth.
A 3-pointer by Adams gave the Golden Eagles a 44-43 lead and, after the Golden Eagles surrendered seven straight points, two more 3-pointers by Adams brought them even at 52-52 with four minutes left. Stanislaus State scored the next four points, but a pair of free throws by Delapina and an offensive rebound basket by DiRegolo with 56 seconds left tied it.
Stanislaus State scored the first five points of overtime, but a free throw by Fabricius and another 3-pointer by Adams made it 61-60 with 2:35 left. The Golden Eagles, though, was blanked the rest of the way and was unable to earn its second straight road win.
Cal State LA will return to action on Saturday with an exhibition game at Vanguard. The Golden Eagles' next conference game will be at home on Dec. 14 against Cal State San Bernardino.
