LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's soccer team was on a rollercoaster of emotions Saturday in the Golden Eagles' final regular-season game of the season.
The disappointment of a narrow 1-0 loss to Chico State was eased minutes later when news came from San Francisco State that the Gators had beaten Sonoma State, which meant Cal State LA had finished second in the conference and earned a first-round bye in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament.
As the No. 2 seed, the Golden Eagles advance to the semi-finals, where they will face the winner of Tuesday's match between No. 3 seed Sonoma State and No. 6 seed Cal Poly Pomona.
Cal State LA (9-4-3, 7-3-2 CCAA) will be making its fifth straight appearance in the CCAA Tournament.
As for Sunday's game, it was an evenly-contested game between two of the participants in the six-team tournament. Chico State (11-5-1, 7-4-1 CCAA) jumped up to the No. 4 seed and will host a first-round game on Tuesday against No. 5 seed Cal State San Marcos.
Cal State LA had a 17-12 advantage in shots, while Chico State had a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

Adriana Maldonado made one save, while Chico State goalkeeper Claire Abele made five saves.
The only goal of the game came in the 15th minute. Pooja Patel sent a cross into the box and Erin Woods one-timed a perfectly-placed shot inside the far post for her seventh goal of the season.
