NORTHRIDGE -- Cal State LA's men's basketball team put in a good showing in an exhibition game Saturday at Cal State Northridge.

The Golden Eagles battled with the Matadors in a 94-75 loss in the Matadome. Cal State LA made things interesting by firing up 41 attempts from behind the 3-point arc and employing a pressure defense that led to 21 Cal State Northridge turnovers. The Matadors have been picked to finish third in the Big West Conference in a preseason media poll.

Travis Hammonds led the Golden Eagles with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Jordan Wilson had 17 points. Roderick Evans-Taylor added 13 points and Miles Ford had eight points.

Kendall Smith led five Cal State Northridge players in double figures with 23 points. Darin Johnson had 20 points, Aaron Parks had 19 points, Dylan Johns had 11 points and Tavrion Dawson had 10 points.

Cal State LA shot 37.2 percent from the field (29-of-78), while Cal State Northridge shot 52.5 percent (32-of-61). The Golden Eagles were 16-of-41 from 3-point range, while the Matadors were 4-of-11. Cal State Northridge had a big edge at the free-throw line, making 26-of-32, while the Golden Eagles attempted only two, making one.

The Golden Eagles were outrebounded, 50-30, but forced 21 turnovers while committing 14.

Wilson (5-of-10) and Hammonds (4-of-8) were a combined 9-of-18 from behind the arc.

Cal State LA will play a second exhibition game against a top Big West conference team when the Golden Eagles face Big West favorite Long Beach State in Long Beach on Saturday, Nov. 11.
