Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Golden Eagles Fall To No. 9 UC San Diego

LA JOLLA -- Cal State LA's women's soccer team found the going tough on the road for a second straight game Friday.

The Golden Eagles, who won their first five conference matches of the season, dropped their second in a row to No. 9 UC San Diego, 2-0, at the Triton Soccer Field. Cal State LA (6-4-2, 5-2 CCAA) lost for the first time last Friday in overtime at Chico State.

Cal State LA was locked in a scoreless tie into the 73rd minute, but UC San Diego (11-2, 7-0 CCAA) scored twice in a seven-minute span to remain the only undefeated team remaining in conference play.

Kristen Sampietro got UC San Diego on the board when she knocked a left-sided cross inside the far post for her second goal of the season and Katie O'Laughlin made it 2-0 with her 11th goal of the year.

UC San Diego was credited with a 25-0 advantage in shots although only seven were on goal. Cal State LA goalkeeper Adriana Maldonado made five saves, while Itzel Gonzalez didn't need to make any saves for the shutout.

The Tritons are the highest-scoring team in the conference and the West Region.

Cal State LA did manage some offensive pressure and took a pair of corner kicks, one in each half. Zarette Munoz-Aguilar took the corner in the first half, while Micaela Estrada took the attempt in the second half. UC San Diego was able to successfully defend both corners.

It was a rough evening for the officials as well, who failed to maintain control in the game and issued three red cards in the final 16 seconds of the match against two of the least-penalized teams in the conference.

Cal State LA will return to action on Sunday with a road game at Cal State San Marcos at 11:30 a.m.
