Golden Eagles Fall To Division I Boise State

BOISE, Idaho – Cal State LA's women's basketball team battled against a talented NCAA Division I Boise State team before falling short to the Broncos.
 
The Golden Eagles led by four points early and trailed by only seven points at halftime and by nine points after three quarters before ultimately falling, 58-44, in Bronco Gym. The game was an exhibition contest for the Golden Eagles, while it was the regular-season opener for the Broncos.
 
Bree Parsons and Ali Orlich had nine points each for the Golden Eagles, while Franeka Hall had eight points. Eleven players competed in the game for Cal State LA and seven of them scored.
 
Cal State LA struggled offensively and shot just 32.1 percent for the game (18-of-56). The Golden Eagles were just 3-of-23 from 3-point range and missed all 12 of their attempts in the second half.
 
Miquelle Askew had 20 points and eight rebounds for Boise State, while Marta Hermida had 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
 
Boise State shot 41.4 percent (24-of-58) for the game, although the Broncos were just 3-of-13 from 3-point range. Boise State was 7-of-8 from the free-throw line, while Cal State LA was just 5-of-10.
 
Boise State enjoyed a 44-23 rebounding edge, but also committed 30 turnovers to 21 for the Golden Eagles. Chiara DiMarco had four of the Golden Eagles' 10 assists. She also led the team with four assists.
 
Kiah Knox had six points and four rebounds for Cal State LA, Rikke Fabricius had had four points, DiMarco had four points, four assists, four steals and three rebounds and Christine Delapina had four points.
 
The Golden Eagles took an early 8-4 lead following a 3-pointer by Parsons, but Boise State got a 3-pointer from Hermida to take a 13-10 lead and never trailed again.
 
A layup by Knox made it 15-14, but Boise State got an offensive rebound and basket from Yaiza Vanderschaaf to take a 17-14 lead after one quarter.
 
Boise State took a quick seven-point lead in the second quarter, but five straight points by Orlich cut the deficit to 23-21 and a layup by Hall tied the game at 23-23 with 3:24 to go in the half. Boise State then scored the final seven points to take a 30-23 halftime lead.
 
Boise State quickly opened up a 12-point lead in the third quarter, but the Golden Eagles got to within five points, 39-34, after four straight points by Hall. A layup by Orlich cut it to 39-36, but Boise State scored eight straight points before a layup by Delapina made it 47-38 after three quarters.
 
The Golden Eagles got the opening basket of the fourth quarter on a layup by Orlich and a layup by Delapina and a basket by Parsons made it 51-44 with 4:20 remaining. The Golden Eagles surrendered the final seven points of the game to account for the final margin.
 
Cal State LA will open the regular-season on Tuesday at Azusa Pacific.
