Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Golden Eagles Blank Gators For CCAA Victory

SAN FRANCISCO – Cal State LA's men's soccer team got a big second-half goal to pick up an important California Collegiate Athletic Association road victory.

Troy Dumlao knocked in a rebound of a Jose Bucio shot to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 victory over San Francisco State Friday at Cox Stadium. Cal State LA (8-2-2, 5-2-1 CCAA) kept pace in a tightly-bunched conference race with its seventh shutout of the season.

Dumlao scored his team-high sixth goal of the season and his third game-winner. The assist for Bucio was his first of the season.

Anthony Perez made three saves for the Golden Eagles for his fourth shutout of the season.

San Francisco State (5-5-3, 1-4-3 CCAA) had a 16-12 advantage in shots, including a 9-4 edge in the second half. The Gators also had a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. Emmanuel Jimenez made three saves in goal for San Francisco State.

The Golden Eagles had several good chances in the first half, including a shot by Herbert Biste that hit the crossbar in the 22nd minute. The Gators began generating some pressure late in the half and had a header by Max Talbert off a corner kick cleared away by a Cal State LA defender.

The Golden Eagles then weathered a bit of a storm in the early stages of the second half before striking for the game-winner. A header by Talbert hit the crossbar in the 67th minute.

Cal State LA struck for the only goal of the game in the 79th minute. A shot by Bucio was saved by Jimenez, but Dumlao was there to put in the rebound and give the Golden Eagles the lead.

Cal State LA's defense took it from there. The Gators had two corner kicks down the stretch but managed only one shot. Biste had a shot sail high for the Golden Eagles in the final minute and Cal State LA ran out the final seconds without incident.

Cal State LA will return to action on Sunday with a match at Cal State Monterey Bay beginning at 11:30 a.m.
