Golden Eagles Get Shutout Win Over Dominguez Hills

Box Score CARSON -- Cal State L.A.'s men's soccer team used another defensive masterpiece to shut down one of the California Collegiate Athletic Association's top offenses.

The Golden Eagles posted their third straight shutout and got goals from Juan Ochoa and Andre Bissmark in a 2-0 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills Sunday at Toro Field. Cal State L.A. (10-1-3, 8-1-3 CCAA) ran its unbeaten streak to nine games and is now 6-0-3 during that stretch. The Golden Eagles have 27 points in conference play and remain one point behind first-place Chico State in the CCAA South Division. UC San Diego is one point back of the Golden Eagles with 26 points.

Cal State Dominguez Hills (8-3-3, 6-3-3 CCAA) is in fourth place in the tightly-packed CCAA South Division with 21 points.

It was a big performance for the Golden Eagles, who were coming off a hard-fought 0-0 tie at Cal Poly Pomona on Friday. The Golden Eagles got another big goal from Ochoa, who gave Cal State L.A. the lead early in the second half. The game stayed tied at 1-0 until Bissmark's goal in the 71st minute.

Cal State Dominguez Hills had an 18-14 advantage in shots, while Cal State L.A. had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Mike Beigarten made two saves, both in the second half, to record his seventh shutout of the season and the team's eighth. Trey Mitchell made four saves for the Toros.

After a scoreless first half, the Golden Eagles grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute when Ochoa knocked in a free kick that went untouched and into the net from the right side. It was Ochoa's fourth goal of the season and his team-leading third game-winner.

Bissmark made it 2-0 in the 71st minute with an assist from Tobias Tobrant. He collected a long ball outside of the box and drilled a shot into the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season.

The Golden Eagle defense took it from there and kept the Toros off the scoreboard.

Cal State L.A. will return to action next Friday with a road game at Cal State San Bernardino.
