Marquis Mora has been named the Molten/ California Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 12-18, the conference announced on Monday.
Mora, a senior middle blocker from Rancho Cucamonga, earned the honor for the third time this season and for the fifth time in her Cal State L.A. career. Mora had two more outstanding matches last week to lead the Golden Eagles to home wins over Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus.
Cal State L.A. (16-13, 14-8 CCAA) finished the season riding a six-match winning streak and Mora led the way.
Mora became the new CCAA single-season record holder for block assists with 149, which beat the old mark of 142 set by Cal Poly Pomona's Antoinette Kathol in 2006. Mora led the conference in total blocks with 164.
She had a tremendous match while leading the Golden Eagles to a thrilling 22-25, 25-18. 20-25, 25-22, 17-15 win over Chico State on Friday. She had 19 kills and 13 blocks and simply took over the match down the stretch. With the Golden Eagles trailing, 13-8, Mora delivered back-to-back kills to make it 13-10 and then combined with
Loreal Carter for three straight blocks to tie the set at 13-13. Mora also scored the Golden Eagles' next two points on kills and then, after a Chico State attack error, she ended the match with a service ace.
She also added a team-high 11 kills and four blocks in a 25-16, 25-12, 25-20 win over Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday.
For the week, Mora had 30 kills, 17 blocks and six service aces. She hit at a .472 percentage.
This was Mora's third weekly honor of the season. She also earned the award for the Week of Oct. 8-14 after leading the Golden Eagles past Cal State Stanislaus and Chico State in road contests and for the week of Sept. 10-16 after helping the Golden Eagles record a road split at Cal State San Bernardino and UC San Diego.
Mora has now won the weekly award five times in her Cal State L.A. career. She also won in 2011 for the week of Oct. 10-16 after a pair of four-set wins over Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East Bay. In eight sets, she had a total of 45 kills, 13 blocks, eight digs and 53 points while recording a hitting percentage of .567.
She earned the weekly honor for the first time as a sophomore for the week of Nov. 1-7 in 2010.
Mora completed her four-year career at Cal State L.A. as the all-time leader in blocks and block assists. She also moved into the top-10 for kills and hitting percentage.
