Golden Eagles Fall Short Sunday Against Cal Poly Pomona

Box Score POMONA -- Cal State L.A.'s women's soccer team came up short in its final California Collegiate Athletic Association game of the season Sunday at Cal Poly Pomona.

The Golden Eagles allowed a pair of second-half goals and never could solve Cal Poly Pomona's defense in a 2-0 loss. Cal State L.A. (7-6-5, 5-6-4 CCAA) will not advance to the four-team CCAA Championship Tournament for the first time in four years.

Cal Poly Pomona (10-4-3, 8-4-3 CCAA), meanwhile, will advance to the conference tournament for the first time since 2004.

The Golden Eagles were locked in a scoreless tie at halftime after outshooting the Broncos, 6-4. Cal Poly Pomona, though, had an 11-4 advantage in shots in the second half while scoring both of its goals.

Cal Poly Pomona had a 15-10 advantage in shots for the game, while Cal State L.A. had the only two corner kicks of the game. Cal State L.A. goalkeeper Gabriella Batmani made two saves, while Cal Poly Pomona goalkeeper Sarah Rohman made five saves.

The Broncos opened the scoring in the 51st minute when Veronica Ramos scored her fifth goal of the season with assists from Cindy Paez and Angela Garcia. Cal Poly Pomona made it 2-0 in the 65th minute when Tatiana Cortes scored her first goal of the season with assists from Ramos and Garcia.

Cal State L.A.'s Tahne Apo had three shots in the contest, while Megan Ollar had two shots, both on goal.
