LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s women's volleyball team did not like the results of the rematch between last year's NCAA Division II West Region championship match.
The Golden Eagles, ranked 17th in the nation, struggled mightily in a swift 25-7, 25-15, 25-14 California Collegiate Athletic Association loss to No. 2 Cal State San Bernardino Friday night in the Eagles Nest. Cal State L.A. (5-2, 2-1) lost for the first time in three conference matches, while Cal State San Bernardino (6-1, 3-0 CCAA) remained unbeaten in CCAA action.
The match was a rematch of last year's regional title match, also won by Cal State San Bernardino in three sets. Cal State L.A. lost for the fifth straight time to the Coyotes.
Jane Chafeh had 13 kills and nine digs to lead Cal State San Bernardino, while Samantha Middleborn had nine kills and three aces.
The Coyotes hit at a .456 percentage, while holding the Golden Eagles to just .065. The Golden Eagles had 21 kills and 16 errors in 77 swings. The Coyotes had 36 kills and only five errors. Cal State L.A.'s troubles extended to the serving line, where the Golden Eagles had only one ace and nine errors.
Cal State L.A. will return to action Saturday night with a home match against Cal Poly Pomona.
