Golden Eagles Endure Third Straight Shutout Defeat

TURLOCK -- Cal State L.A.'s men's soccer team continued to search unsuccessfully for goals Friday afternoon in a key California Collegiate Athletic Association match at Cal State Stanislaus.

The Golden Eagles were blanked for the third straight game and surrendered four unanswered goals in the second half of a 4-0 loss to Cal State Stanislaus Friday night at Warrior Field. Cal State L.A. (5-3, 4-3 CCAA) remains just one point out of the CCAA South Division lead.

Cal State L.A. had 13 shots in the contest, but only one on goal. That attempt was by defender Julian Ringhof, who shared the team high in shots with three. Gonzalo Pulgar also had three shots.

The Golden Eagles had a statistical edge in the opening half, but couldn't snap their scoreless string. Cal State L.A. hasn't scored in consecutive road losses at Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State San Bernardino and Cal State Stanislaus.

The Golden Eagles had a 7-5 edge in shots in the first half and a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks. Cal State L.A. had a 10-2 edge in corner kicks for the game.

The Warriors broke the scoreless tie just 2:30 into the second half on a goal by Juan Alvarez with assists from Kyle Cadigan and TJ Grewel.

The score stayed at 1-0 until the Warriors scored twice in a four-minute span to get some breathing room. Arturo Pulido made it 2-0 in the 63rd minute with assists from Victor Regaldo and Jio Santana. Edwardo Meza extended the lead to 3-0 in the 67th minute on a goal by Edwardo Meza with assists from Santana and Regaldo.

Cal State Stanislaus closed out the scoring in the 74th minute on a goal by Santana.

Both goalies, Javier Rosales of Cal State Stanislaus and James Irwin of Cal State L.A., made one save each.

Cal State L.A. will return to action on Sunday with a match at No. 6 Chico State.
