A dedicated and well-respected professional in her field, Jennifer Lupo-Northrup is the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine for Cal State LA. She has assumed the lead in maintaining the health care and well-being of Cal State LA’s student-athletes. She is currently collaborating with Dr. Jeffrey Su, DPT, PT, MS, CPT as the co-director of the Performance, Physical Therapy & Wellness (PPTW) program. This collaborative Sports Medicine program aims to provide physical therapy services to our student-athletes as part of a multi-disciplinary approach to student-athlete success.
Lupo-Northrup was promoted to her current role in November 2021 after having served as the Head Athletic Trainer since December of 2020. She began her career at Cal State LA as an assistant athletic trainer in 2008.
Lupo-Northrup is a long-standing member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. She is certified nationally by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer, is certified by the Association of College and University Educators and has over 20 years of experience working in collegiate athletics.
She began her career at Cal State Bakersfield, where she earned her Master’s degree, and was an assistant athletic trainer from 2002-2004 for the Roadrunners, who, at that time, were members of the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Lupo-Northrup then worked at Cal Poly Pomona, where she was an assistant athletic trainer from 2004-2008 for the Broncos. Her main sport responsibilities were with volleyball and baseball.
In addition to her work in intercollegiate athletics, Lupo-Northrup also served on the ESPN medical staff for the X Games from 2007-09 and the XMED medical staff in 2012 with Red Bull FMX.
She has also served as an adjunct faculty member for the Kinesiology department at Cal State LA. Where she created the curriculum and served as instructor for the “Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries” course.
A Central Valley native, Lupo-Northrup earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology, Sports Medicine, with a minor in Psychology at Fresno State and her Master of Science degree in Administration, Health Care Management at Cal State Bakersfield.
In her leisure time, Lupo-Northrup enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
