Dr. Demetrus L. Caldwell is a seasoned collegiate athletics administrator with more than a decade of experience leading strategic, compliance, and student-centered initiatives within NCAA Division II. He currently serves as the Deputy Athletic Director and Chief of Staff at Cal State LA, where he provides day-to-day oversight of athletic operations, championship planning, and departmental strategy. In this role, he also serves as the Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Designee and Deputy Title IX Coordinator.
Since joining Cal State LA in 2017 as compliance coordinator, Dr. Caldwell has steadily advanced through key leadership positions, including Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Student-Athlete Services. His accomplishments include founding the Golden Eagle Leadership Academy, directing NCAA and conference championship events, and driving DEI programming and student-athlete development efforts.
Prior to his tenure at Cal State LA, Dr. Caldwell served as the first Assistant Director for NCAA Compliance at Northwestern State University of Louisiana. His foundation in athletics administration began during his undergraduate years at the University of New Orleans, where he worked as an academic and compliance intern.
Dr. Caldwell holds an Ed.D. in Athletic Administration from Northcentral University, an M.S. in Sport Management Studies from California University of Pennsylvania, and a B.S. in Sport Management from the University of New Orleans. He is a graduate of the NCAA Dr. Charles Whitcomb Leadership Institute, a former NCAA Strategic Alliance Matching Grant Committee Chair, and an active member of professional organizations including NACDA, NAAC, and MOAA.
