Summary

Biography

2022: Returned to join the cross country team in the fall, but did not compete in any races. Returned to competition for Cal State LA’s track and field team in the spring (2023). Had a best time of 5:20.44 in the 1,500 meters.

2020: Was on the cross country roster in the fall and track and field roster in the spring (2021), but teams did not compete due to COVID.

2019: Was one of the top runners for Cal State LA’s cross country team in her first year with the program. Competed in six meets for the Golden Eagles and was consistently among the team’s top-five. Was the team’s No. 3 runner at the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships and finished 52nd with a time of 23:57.71 over 6,000 meters. Was the team’s No. 2 runner at the NCAA Division II West Regionals and finished 89th with a time of 22:30.3 over 6,000 meters. Was off to a strong start in the outdoor track season (2020) when it was halted. Had best times of 5:02.71 in the 1,500 and 10:49.12 in the 3,000.

At Alhambra High School: Was a four-year letter winner in cross country and track and field. Set a league record in the mile and had best times of 5:16.49 in the 1,600 and 11:40.37 in the 3,200. Won back-to-back league championships in cross country in 2017-18 and in the 1,600 and 3,200 in track in 2019. Was the school’s Athlete of the Year in 2016 and the team MVP for cross country in 2016, 2017 and 2018 and for track in 2016, 2017 and 2019. As a team captain, helped the varsity cross country team to the first Almont League championship in the school’s history as a junior. Was presented with a Certificate of Recognition from the Alhambra Unified School District for girls cross country in 2018 and earned a scholarship from the Alhambra High School Athletic Alumni Foundation in 2019. Also won the school’s Shan Hamilton Award in 2019.

Personal: Daughter of Tony and Jackie Duenas. Majoring in Kinesiology. Enjoys making polymer clay and resin gifts for family and friends and reading her Bible. Lists traveling to Oregon during her freshman cross country season with her teammates to compete in regionals as her most exciting experience in sports.
