Biography
2017: Had an outstanding season for the Golden Eagles in her final year with the program. Had best marks of 5:06.12 in the 1,500, 10:58.95 in the 3,000, 18:35.62 in the 5,000 and 40:32.23 in the 10,000. Finished 25th in the California Collegiate Athletic Association in the 5,000. Also competed in indoor track and had best marks of 10:42.61 in the 3,000. For her career, had best marks of 2:40.46 in the 800, 4:56.41 in the 1,500, 10:58.95 in the 3,000, 18:29.59 in the 5,000 and 40:32.23 in the 10,000 in outdoor track and 10:42.61 in the 3,000 in indoor track. Finished her career No. 6 all-time in the indoor 3,000.
2016: Had the track and field team’s best 10,000-meter time (39:32.18) and also had best times of 4:56.41 in the 1,500 and 18:29.59 in the 5,000. Competed for the Cal State LA indoor track and field team as well and had a best mark of 10:54.37 in the 3,000.
2015: Ran well for the Golden Eagles' track and field team in the spring. Had best times of 2:40.46 in the 800, 5:04.98 in the 1,500 and 19:12.38 in the 5,000. Showed tremendous improvement for the Cal State LA cross country team. Was the team’s No. 1 runner in the first two meets of the season and a consistent No. 2 runner for the rest of the season. Finished 78th in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships with a time of 23:42.5 over a 6,000-meter course. Finished 130th in the NCAA Division II West Regionals with a time of 23:41.7 over a 6,000-meter course.
2013: Competed in three meets in her first season with the program. Opened the year by finishing 39th in the UC San Diego Opener with a time of 19:11.7 over 2.5 miles on Sept. 6. Had a best 6,000-meter time of 24:23.0 at the UC Riverside Invitational on Sept. 14. Placed 47th at the Cal State San Bernardino Invitational with a time of 25:24.1 over 6,000 meters.
At Bonita Vista High School: Competed in cross country and track and field. Ran varsity all four years. Competed in CIF three years and was a two-mile league champion. Had best times of 5:19 in the mile and 11:21 in the two-mile.
Personal: Daughter of Javier and Carmen Hernandez. Majoring in television, film and media studies. Enjoys watching moves, writing and swimming. Lists winning the two-mile league championship race in high school, competing in collegiate sports and winning a 5,000-meter race on a home turf race as her most exciting experiences in sports.
