Meghan Nelson

A former head assistant coach at NCAA Division II Northwest Missouri State, Meghan Nelson joins the Cal State L.A. women’s basketball program as an assistant coach. She was also a player and coach at Southwest Minnesota State.

Nelson spent the past two years at Northwest Missouri State and helped the Bearcats reach the national semi-finals in 2011. The Bearcats were 29-5, including a 15-0 mark at home. Northwest Missouri State captured conference and regional championships that season on its way to the Final Four.

Among her duties were recruiting, providing on-court instruction, coordinating all travel arrangements, assisting in scouting and film sessions for game preparation and monitoring and encouraging the scholastic progress of the student-athletes.

Prior to joining the staff at Northwest Missouri State, Nelson spent two years as the head assistant coach at the University of Sioux Falls in South Dakota. She helped the Cougars record back-to-back 18-win seasons.

Her responsibilities at the University of Sioux Falls included coordinating and implementing the defensive system and strategies, assisting in recruiting, specializing in post player development, assisting in travel arrangements and itineraries, facilitating program fund-raising activities and organizing and conducting summer satellite basketball clinics.

Nelson began her coaching career as a student assistant at Southwest Minnesota State, where she also played for a pair of seasons.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Southwest Minnesota State and received her Master’s degree in business administration from Sioux Falls.
