A talented coach with NCAA Division I and professional soccer experience, Christian Segovia returns for his second season as an assistant coach on the Cal State LA’s men’s soccer staff.
Segovia joined Cal State LA prior to the 2025 season and helped the Golden Eagles to another winning season. Cal State LA was 8-4-7 overall and finished third in the California Collegiate Athletic Association with a 5-3-2 mark. Cal State LA reached the conference tournament for a 14th straight season and to the NCAA playoffs for an eighth straight season.
Cal State LA also continued its impressive streak of national recognition, achieving a national ranking as high as No. 2 during the 2025 season and earning a top-five spot for a sixth consecutive season.
Segovia comes to Cal State LA from the University of Portland, where he was the graduate assistant director of operations for the men’s soccer program in the 2023 and 2024 seasons. He helped the Pilots to a 19-9-7 record over two years, including an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2023 and an undefeated West Coast Conference record of 4-0-4 in 2024.
Before his time in Portland, Segovia was part of the front office of the Los Angeles Football Club and earned an MLS Cup ring in 2022. During his time with LAFC, he developed a familiarity with Cal State LA as a member of the university’s educational and operational partner (LAFC).
Segovia has Southern California playing experience. He was a part of the LA Galaxy Academy from 2012-15, where he was a team captain. During his time with the LA Galaxy Academy, the Galaxy MLS team won MLS Cups in 2012 and 2014 during the David Beckham era.
He then earned a scholarship to play collegiately at the University of California, Berkeley.
Segovia earned his bachelor’s degree at UC Berkeley and his Master’s degree in higher education and student affairs from the University of Portland.
