A talented coach with California Collegiate Athletic Association playing experience, Scott Clark returns for his second season with the Cal State LA men’s basketball program as an assistant coach. Clark was on a pair of championship teams at Humboldt State before beginning his coaching career at California Baptist.
Clark helped the Golden Eagles qualify for the CCAA Championship Tournament in 2016-17 and compile an overall record of 14-16, which marked a three-game improvement from the previous season.
Clark got his coaching career of to a successful start with two seasons as an assistant coach at California Baptist. He worked with head coach Rick Croy and the Lancers were 54-14 while he was there. The Lancers reached the NCAA Division II Sweet 16 in the 2014-15 season and won the PacWest Conference Tournament Championship and reached the NCAA Tournament in 2015-16.
His responsibilities included player development, scouting and recruiting and he was the summer youth camp director.
Clark had an outstanding two-year playing career at Humboldt State for coach Steve Kinder, where he was a part of teams that went 48-12 in his two seasons with the program. He averaged 12 points a game and started every contest for the Lumberjacks as a senior and was named to the CCAA Championships All-Tournament team. The ‘Jacks won the conference tournament title that year and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. In his junior season, Humboldt State was the CCAA regular-season champion and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
Prior to attending Humboldt State, Clark played for two years for head coach John Peterson at Ohlone College in Fremont. He was part of two championship teams.
He grew up in Pleasanton and attended Foothill High School.
Clark, who is the son of a high-school basketball coach, completed his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology at Humboldt State and his Masters in Sports Management at California Baptist.
