A former star player at John C. Fremont High School and the all-time leading scorer and new Hall of Fame inductee at Pepperdine University, Dane Suttle returns for his third season with the Cal State L.A. program as an assistant coach. Suttle was also drafted into the National Basketball Association and played for the Kansas City Kings.
Suttle helped the Golden Eagles to a 17-10 overall record last season and a 13-9 mark in California Collegiate Athletic Association play. Cal State L.A.’s conference record was its best since 2001 and the Golden Eagles featured one of the best defenses in the country.
He joined the Golden Eagles in 2010-11 and helped the program to a 15-13 overall record and Cal State L.A.’s first-ever win in the CCAA Championship Tournament.
Suttle has an extensive coaching and training background. He coached and traveled with the French National Team in 2004 that included NBA players Mickael Pietrus and Tariq Abdul Wahad. He also coached View Park High School to a championship in 2006-07 and he was the head coach for the San Diego Wildfire semi-pro team in 2001. Suttle has also coached Adidas Pump and Run AAU teams.
He is also a professional trainer and consultant and has worked with past and present NBA players.
Suttle had an outstanding playing career. He averaged 29.8 points per game while attending John C. Fremont High School in Los Angeles and he was a two-time All-West Coast Conference selection and the 1983 Co-Player of the Year while at Pepperdine. He helped the Waves to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 1982 and 1983 and is the all-time leading scorer in Pepperdine history with 1,702 points. In October, Suttle was inducted into the Pepperdine Hall of Fame.
He received his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Pepperdine.
Suttle played for two seasons in NBA with the Kansas City Kings from 1983-85.
He is the father of three children, Cache, Audom and Dane Jr. Dane Jr. was also a member of Pepperdine’s men’s basketball team and graduated earlier this year.
