Chris Morrison

A former All-Conference player at Western Washington and a coach with extensive experience in Southern California at the high school and junior college levels, Chris Morrison joins the Cal State L.A. men’s basketball program as an assistant coach.

Morrison comes to Cal State L.A. from Cerritos College, where he was an assistant coach for the past two seasons. He was also a head coach at St. Anthony High School for the boys’ team from 2009-12 and a girls’ head coach at Bishop Amat High School, where he was also an assistant coach. He began his Southern California coaching career at Long Beach Poly High School, where he was an assistant coach for the boys’ team.

He currently teaches math, computer science and physical education at St. Anthony High School.

Morrison had an outstanding professional basketball career overseas. He played for four years for the Sun Coast Clippers in Australia and led the team to a championship in 1997 while becoming the only player to average a triple-double in the league’s history. He was voted the league’s best point guard that season and also won the slam dunk contest.

Morrison also spent four years playing in Finland for Hi-Tech Finland and Joensee Kataja Basket. He was named the league’s Player of the Year three times and was selected to the all-star team three times.

He earned All-Pacific Northwest Athletic Conference honors at Western Washington in 1995 after leading the team in scoring. He was also a first-team All-CIF guard at St. Anthony’s, where he was also named to the All-Los Angeles Times team and to the Long Beach Press Telegram’s Dream Team.

Morrison earned his Bachelor’s degree in business management from Western Washington and his Master’s degree in Education and Education Administration from National University. He and his wife, Maria, have a daughter, Mia, and a son, Christopher, Jr.
