A talented coach with NCAA Division I experience, Alex Schilter returns for his fourth season with the Cal State LA men’s basketball program as an assistant coach.

Schilter helped the Golden Eagles show improvement throughout the 2016-17 season and improve their win total by three games from the previous season. Cal State LA was 14-16 overall and finished with a 9-11 mark in conference play. The Golden Eagles reached the conference tournament for a second straight season.

Schilter helped the Golden Eagles to a memorable finish to the 2015-16 campaign as Cal State LA became only the second No. 8 seed to knock off a No. 1 seed in the CCAA Championship Tournament. The Golden Eagles stunned conference regular-season champion Chico State, 54-37, in Chico for only the second tournament win in the program’s history. Cal State LA advanced to the conference semi-finals in Stockton.

Cal State LA finished the season with an 11-18 overall record and a 9-11 conference mark after winning eight of its last 10 games.

In Schilter’s first year with the program, he helped the Golden Eagles through a transitional season. Cal State LA finished with a 10-16 overall record and an 8-14 mark in conference play. The Golden Eagles were ranked 14th in the nation in scoring defense after allowing opponents to score just 62.9 points per game.

He was initially hired by Loyola Marymount midway through the 2012-13 season. He completed his Master’s degree in educational studies from Loyola Marymount in August, 2014.

Schilter earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management with a business administration area of specialization from Washington State in 2012. He was the student manager for the Cougars from 2010 until his graduation and was the associate video coordinator.
